Guide to Bandai High Grade (HG) Logo

This is a beginner guide for understanding the meaning behind Bandai's Gunpla High Grade logo. If you are completely unfamiliar with Gundam TV show series and/or only interested in the Gunpla design rather than to watch the related anime, you may find this guide useful.

In Bandai's Gunpla based on the world of Gundam, they categorized the design into several grades. The Grade simply mean the sizes and the difficulties to assembling it. A quick guide to Bandai Gunpla most common grades you will find in the store:

First Grade - scale 1/144
basic parts and earliest production, recommended for children at least age 5 up

High Grade - scale 1/144
usually about five runners (A,B,C,D,E) and takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours to build it, recommended for children at least age 8 years above. About 13 to 16 cm in real height. This grade has the most number of models, there must be about more than 400 models being produced under this size and scale.

Real Grade - scale 1/144
the latest grade from Bandai and introduced in 2010. It is basically a Master Grade in details but comes only in 1/144 sizes as in High Grade. About 13 to 16 cm in height.

Master Grade - scale 1/100
the parts already has skeletal frame. More details than HG. About 17 to 20 cm in height.

Perfect Grade - scale 1/160
This if for hardcore Gunpla enthusiast. Real details in all parts. About 30 cm. As per 2013, there are only about 20 models being produced.

I found the "medium"-level called High Grade is their most popular and most numbers in production. If you confused about the meaning behind their HG logo, this is the Guide to Bandai's Gunpla High Grade (HG) Logo, found in their box cover.

The latest line is High Grade Build Fighter based on the current Gundam Build Fighter series.
As the time of writing, Gundam HGCC Correct Century is not yet released and only a prototype of Gundam Turn A model being displayed for public, it is scheduled to released in April 2014.

EZ8 Gundam - Mainly appeared on OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team 

piloted by the series' main protagonist Shiro Amada. Design are boxy and looks mechanical, simply a classic '80 era feel.

FA-010S Full Armour ZZ Gundam from Mobile Suit ZZ, known pilot by Judau Ashta

there is also another variation distinguished with double cannon. I like the bulky body design, looks very badass!

G Gundam or God Gundam from Mobile Fighter G Gundam. One of my favorite mecha from lesser known series. Pilot by Domon Kasshu of Neo Japan.

Nu Gundam or RX-93 v Gundam is another mecha pilot by Amuro Ray from the Char's Counterattack. One of most popular design from Universal Century, mainly for it's Psycoframe technology. Nu Gundam vs Sazabi is one of my most favorite rivalry.

Turn A Gundam or ∀ Gundam SYSTEM ∀-99 ∀ Gundam piloted primarily by Rolan Cehack. From rarely popular Turn A Gundam series in Correct Century timeline. Perhaps the most memorable mecha for it's 'mustache'....

X Gundam. This model from After War series gonna get a boost in popularity by now. Gundam Build Fighter will based on of their prime mecha using X Gundam as base model.

MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam series. In anime this was deisgned and piloted by Kamille Bidan. Another classic titular gundam from Universal Century timeline.

Gundam MSN-06S Sinanju 1-144 HGUC

One of great Gundam design is MSN-06S Sinanju. Appeared in Gundam Suit Unicorn, Sinanju Stein was produced by Earth Federation's "UC Project". Operated by Neo Zeon and piloted by the mysterious Full Frontal.

A short review for Sinanju 1/144
The model itself, a 1/144 HG, comes in great incarnation from the anime. The most striking features are the details in stickers. If you are not keen in putting smaller than nails sticker, Sinanju maybe not your luck. Almost 90% of the black colors comes as sticker, so take your time to patiently work on it. His transparent yellow shape blade is also a great extras.

Gundam in LOMO styles - Strike GAT-X105 and F91

Here two of my old photos, still taken only via pocket camera. I try to resembling the LOMO (Lomography) style. Without the fisheye lens of course. But I added screen line , change the color balance into green and yellow-ish, then dimmed the light in elliptical shape.

The models are Gundam Strike GAT-X105 and F91 in Master Grade scale. Hope you enjoy it.

Gundam MSN-06S Sinanju

One of favorite Gundam design is MSN-06S Sinanju. The model appear in Universal Century OVA Unicorn. The model with Chinese armour influence look best in this design. The red, black and gold colour is memorable. The mecha was designed by Hajime Katoki. Sinanju was operated by Neo Zeon in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn movie. Here my photo from the expo, and the best photo from the web.

Universal Century Mecha Timeline Wallpaper

Using my Gundam photostock, I arrange the Universal Century timeline. I missed out the MS Igloo and G-Saviour in the beginning and last timeline, but overall this is the chronological timeline as appear in the Gundam canon. This is also fit in wallpaper resolution of 1280x800.
